NEW DELHI: BJP chief and Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday celebrated the opening of Kartarpur Sahib Corridor as a “historic achievement” and complimented PM Narendra Modi for helping realise the dreams of millions of Sikhs to be able to access the holy shrine.
“Kartarpur Sahib Corridor is a historic achievement that generations of devotees will remember. It will find special mention in the annals of history. It reflects Modi govt’s commitment towards preserving our rich heritage & universalising the teachings of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji,” said Shah.
In a series of tweets, Shah said inauguration of the corridor on Sunday on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, represents the NDA government’s commitment to popularise the teachings of the founder of Sikh faith. Guru Nanak Dev had settled at Kartarpur Sahib after finishing his missionary work.
“With opening of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor, when we are marking Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th Parkash Purab, PM has realised the long-cherished dream of millions,” Shah said. Modi will also flag off the first ‘Jatha’ (delegation) of pilgrims from Dera Baba Nanak.
