Team17 and The Game Kitchen’s Blasphemous is out today on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Blasphemous is a deeply punishing action-platformer from publisher Team17 and developer The Game Kitchen. The game is certainly not for the squeamish and features absolutely brutal combat that might leave you feeling queasy. The game is out today, and, to celebrate, the team has released a brand new trailer. Give it a watch below. Just make sure you’re not eating anything.
Blasphemous is something of a Metroidvania. You’ll move throughout the non-linear world, marveling at the gothic architecture. That is, you will until you’re met with one of the many enemies waiting to greet you to the world of Cvstodia. The entire land has been overtaken by a curse called The Miracle, and it is up to you to save the world from its fate.
The game puts a heavy focus on combat. You’ll be building up your abilities to deliver painful combos to your foes. As you deal damage, you’ll perform gory executions that leave your targets dismembered and dead. There are several items and abilities for you to find and equip, which means you’ll be able to tune your character exactly to your liking. Blasphemous encourages experimentation as you try to find that perfect playstyle for you.
Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on Blasphemous. I had so much fun playing Bloodstained earlier this year, and am in the market for my next Metroidvania fix. Blasphemous looks like it can scratch that itch and having it on the Switch seems like a no-brainer.
Blasphemous is out today for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
