BHOPAL: After senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s statement on former AICC president Rahul Gandhi and the party, another leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday came forward to say that “self-assessment is needed.” Scindia is presently on a nine-day visit in the Gwalior-Chambal region.
On Wednesday, reporters in Gwalior approached him for a comment on former Union minister Salman Khurshid’s remark that Congress “did not get-together to analyse” the Lok Sabha defeat. Khurshid said, “Our biggest problem is our leader has walked away. It’s kind of left a vacuum.”
Scindia refused to comment on Khurshid’s statement. “You know my habit, I don’t give reaction on reactions. You should ask the person who made that observation.” However, Scindia added, “There is no doubt that self-assessment is needed in the Congress. And review whatever the situation and take steps for improvement, this is need and demand of the hour.”
State Congress supported Scindia’s statement that the party requires self- introspection. State Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi said, “What Jyotiraditya Scindia said is right and introspection is a regular feature of political parties especially the Congress. The Congress party has been conducting introspection exercise for 133 years. If we have to improve our politics and reach the common man, then introspection is a must. There is no harm in introspection.”
